November Update

The AGM went well with almost the whole committee being re-elected. After 5 years Joy has passed her Programme Secretary hat to Nicky. Our thanks to her for the variety of speakers and workshops we have enjoyed. Terry and Gill updated us on things happening at both HQ and Regional level. The big news is the loan has been repaid.

We had a very successful trip to the Knitting & Stitching Show with everyone coming home laden with exciting purchases.

Some of our members are exhibiting and selling at A Material World, the annual feast of textiles at the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens -

Textile Exhibition: A Material World

September Meeting

Well, suddenly Autumn is upon us after a very patchy summer.
The September meeting is a practical one so please bring £1 for the materials which will be provided plus your normal sewing things. Some autumn coloured embroidery threads and beads if you have them might be useful but there are sure to be some to share.
It's also the time of year to pay subscriptions, so be prepared! There are still a few people who have not yet registered on the national database which has been set up to make admin. easier. It's really easy to do - just follow the link on the right under Our Friends

There are still places available on the Workshop on Saturday 22nd (see poster)
and on the coach trip to the Knitting and Stitching show on Sunday 14th October (see July entry below).  Everyone is welcome.

Other news -

The regional A.G.M is on Sat. Oct 6th at Banbury. As well as the AGM there will be an exhibition ‘ Looking Through ‘ and in the afternoon a talk by Jane Davis called ‘Yurts ,Yaks and Yogurt’- Textile adventures in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

We are delighted that the Guild CEO, Terry Murphy, will be at our own AGM on October 15th so it would be good to have a full house.

And another  date for your October diary - Anne is organizing a textile exhibition at Weyhill Gallery between Oct 1st -14th. If any member would like to take part, please contact her.

****IMPORTANT SUMMER UPDATE****

Normally we have a quiet time between the July & August meetings, however, before you settle down to your summer sewing projects, please can you take a few minutes to register your details on the new Guild Database. HQ has been given a substantial donation from a member for the express purpose of replacing the out-of-date database software and building a new website for the Guild, its regions and branches.
The database software is now ready to use and the aim is to have everyone registered by the end of August to make the subscription renewals process much easier in September/October. The Guild are offering a 'carrot' of entry into a Prize Draw of £100 in Guild Book Tokens for all who register by 23.59hr BST on 31st August 2012!
Just click on Embroiderers Guild Member Registration in Our Friends on the left to go straight to the page. It really does only take a minute - honestly!

Also check out the Guild website for details of the postcard project - 'Stitching a Welcome to the Athletes of the World'. The nearest venue for us to see them is The Crypt Gallery, St Martin in the Fields, Trafalgar Square, WC2N 4JJ from 2nd August - 22nd September 2012. But there are other venues around the country if you are having a 'staycation'.

Finally, we still have places on our visit to The Knitting & Stitching Show on 14th October. The total cost including entry and coach trvel is £27. Everyone is welcome.

JULY MEETING

Our last meeting before the break in August - see the poster below. For more information see Dorothy's entry on www.textilestudygroup.co.uk.

Don't forget to book your place for the Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace on Sunday 14th October. Gill will be taking £10 deposits. The balance is due at the September meeting.

Have a good break but remember the Andover Library Window Exhibition from 22nd October to 3rd November when planning your Summer projects. The theme is 'Autumn' which fits in nicely with the weather we are having!

JUNE MEETING

This month's meeting has a Celebration theme. Our speaker is looking back to the Royal Wedding last year and with the Jubilee Weekend fresh in our minds, everyone is invited to wear something red, white or blue or any combination of those colours. Our newly completed bunting will be on show. Many thanks to all those who contributed.
Check out the Gallery for Gill's pictures of the May meeting.

APRIL NEWS

A bit late this month - doesn't the time fly. Hope you all had a good Easter in spite of the wet weather. The garden is still too dry so apologies if the rain prayers work. ( I did ask for overnight rain!)

There are two extra special events this month. We are delighted that Ruth Smith is returning for our evening talk this Monday 16th, to tell us more about the textiles of the Miao people of China. Perhaps those of us who made the Folded Secrets booklets at her workshop last year would like to bring them along.

On 21st Margaret is running her Fusing Fabric workshop using fine tipped soldering irons and machine embroidery. The technique, which Margaret perfected, gives amazing results unlike any other, so why not try it. Joy will be taking final payments on Monday.
Hope to see you there.
[Last minute news - Marlborough & District Branch is holding a 2-day workshop 'Drawing for the Terrified' with Richard Box on Mon 21st & Tues 22nd May. Cost £50. Booking details at the Monday meeting or contact our branch.]
